Spring is in the air. It's time to shake off winter, embrace the sunshine and dust off those golf clubs. Boerne and the surrounding area has so much to offer the novice golfer as well as the low handicapper. No matter where you tee it up this time of year you will be pleased to find all area golf courses in their Sunday best. Right now the grass is green, the trees are blooming and we're weeks away from hot summer sun reeking havoc on the superintendant's sanity.

 

If you are lucky enough to get an invitation, there are many exceptional private courses in the Boerne area. Cordillera, Fair Oaks Ranch and The Dominion just to name a few. Each has  its own Texas Hill Country Club décor which will make you feel as though you're caught somewhere in between the movie Caddy Shack and an episode of Bonanza.

If you are new to the Texas Hill Country or just visiting and haven't managed to wrangle an invite to a private club, whatever you do, do not be discouraged. The Boerne area has some of the finest public courses in the state. You can not go wrong with the public links at Tapatio Springs Resort, Buckhorn or the simi-private Riverhill.

Tapatio Springs Resort & Conference center brings together the best of the motto, "Work hard and play hard." You can spend your mornings taking care of business at the top notch conference center and your afternoons taking care not to loose all of your golf balls. Tapatio is regarded as one of the top golf resorts in South Texas and has 27 holes on three different courses, "The Lakes" , "The Valley" and "The Ridge." All courses will challenge you as much as delight you with spectacular views and dramatic elevation changes.

Just up the road from Boerne outside the town of Comfort you will find the fairly new Buckhorn Golf Course. This course is deceptive with its wide fairways and welcoming greens. However do not be fooled before you pick your game and make your bets. This course with it's placement shots and fast greens can bring even the best of players to his or her knees.

If old school is more your style we encourage you to visit the semi-private Riverhill Country Club. The great Byron Nelson teamed up with Joe Finger to create this amazing layout. This course will not only challenge your swing it will stimulate your mind and force you to use brain over brawn. Don't get too excited if you reach a par 5 in two, the bent grass greens which are a thing of beauty and quite rare for this part of the country will have you thanking the Golf Gods for a three putt vs. a four.

Wherever you decide to play, we encourage you to make the most of it. Take in the amazing hill country views, be on the lookout for fantastic wildflowers and natural wildlife. If you do, you might just forget about that double-bogey.
